That's a very interesting take on it and it fit in perfectly with Illya's mother visiting for Christmas which you had already set up!
So Waverly thought he was furthering the education and career of his son, thus the fatherly looks, but he wasn't actually the father.
Will Napoleon (or has he already) explained that to Yuliya and put her mind at rest? Had she told her husband? I wasn't certain of that, but thought she had. And you also fit in an explanation about the wedding ring. Is he dead now in your universe? I wonder who else he told (Illya's siblings)? You may have to write some more about this!
