Well done! Napoleon's breakdown was harrowing and felt very real.

I got really caught up in reading this story. I, too, wondered why Illya didn't ask Angelique what had happened. The fact that she's dead answered that question. Mr. Waverly was rather ruthless in his treatment of his top agent and I was pleased that Illya took it upon himself to do what was best for Napoleon. This is one of the best stories I've read!

I forgot to post in my previous comment that I found the whole idea of the trained response "trigger-pattern" very intriguing.
Would you have any objection to me possibly borrowing that idea in future?

A very well written story. But wouldn't U.N.C.L.E. have known that Angelique had been killed?
If U.N.C.L.E. knew the location of all the shooters in the gun battle, as well as the ballistic patterns of the bullets that hit their targets, it has to be forwarded that they did a "clean-up" procedure afterwards with regard to the bodies. So Angelique's body would have been retrieved and identified as one of the downed Thrush.
